Discover Shigaraki
Shigaraki is an experience that stays with you. Tucked away in Shiga Prefecture’s rolling hills, this cultural gem brings together 800 years of pottery heritage, scenic landscapes, and unforgettable experiences. As one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, Shigaraki blends timeless tradition with modern creativity.
Pottery here is wabi-sabi at its finest - earthy tones, organic textures, and natural ash glazes. Each piece tells a story shaped by fire, clay, and craftsmanship. Shigaraki's appeal is the pottery, but the appeal of the area runs much deeper.
Step back to the 8th century at the Shigaraki Palace ruins, where ancient roads and palace foundations echo Japan's imperial past. Wander the kiln trail and discover artisan workshops where tradition meets contemporary design. You can even craft your own piece of history.
Shigaraki's scenic golf courses offer stunning mountain views and relaxing rounds. For tea lovers, Asamiya's 1,200-year-old plantations serve one of Japan's finest teas, rich in history and flavor.
Art enthusiasts will be drawn to the Miho Museum, designed by I.M.Pei, where striking architecture meets cultural treasures. And don't miss the charming tanuki statues lining the streets - symbols of good fortune and Shigaraki's creative spirit.

Shigaraki isn’t just a place. It’s a vibe.
